Tournament Format

Either Double Elimination or a Round Robin Tournament will be selected based on the number of participants.

Double Elimination Tournament

  •  Each player has two chances to remain in the competition.
  •  Players are initially divided into winners’ and losers’ brackets.
  •  Matches begin in the winners’ bracket; losing players move to the losers’ bracket.
  •  Players eliminated from the losers’ bracket are out of the tournament.
  •  The final round consists of the winners from each bracket facing off.

Round Robin Tournament

  •  Each participant competes against every other participant.
  •  All players face each opponent at least once.
  •  Matches can be played simultaneously or consecutively.
  •  Points are awarded for wins, draws, and losses.
  •  The player with the highest score at the end of all rounds is the winner.

Time Control

  •  Most matches: 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move (10+5).
  •  Final round (Double Elimination Tournament): 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move (15+10).
  •  These time controls ensure a balanced and competitive gameplay experience.

Game Rules

  1. The games will follow the standard rules of chess as established by FIDE.
  2. Touch-Move Rule: Once a player touches a piece, they must move it if it is a legal move.
  3. Threefold Repetition Rule: If the same position occurs three times with the same player to move, the game is declared a draw.
  1. Fifty-Move Rule: If no pawn is moved, and no piece is captured within the last fifty moves, a player can claim a draw.

Fair Play

  1. Participants must adhere to fair play principles and avoid any form of cheating.
  2. Cheating includes using electronic devices or external assistance.
  3. Any player found cheating will be immediately disqualified from the competition.

Arbitration

  • A designated arbiter or arbiters will be available to resolve disputes or rule violations.

Equipment

  • Chess sets, boards, and clocks will be provided by the tournament organizers.
